Illegal Slot Machines at San MateoJohn B. and Deborah Jean Valdes are the owners of John’s Casino Style Games in San Mateo, and have recently pled no contest to a charge of “gambling.” The two are accused of running illegal slot machines at that location, and were arrested last September. The plea ended up being on John only, as officials believe that she did not really have anything to do with the business, and therefore the state dropped all charges against her. John was charged with operating a gambling house and possession of slot machines. The first offense is a third degree felony and the second was a misdemeanor. He ended up pleading guilty to “gambling” which is a second degree misdemeanor and sentenced to time served which was one day. He is responsible for court costs of $241.50 as well. The slot machines are going to be destroyed eventually, and the State Attorney’s Office is going to file a motion to that effect. The state seizes 50 slot machines during the raid. This was the second illegal slot machine gambling house in recent months to come to an end – there were two establishments raided in September and their slot machines were seized. The other was JR Vegas Style Games in Palatka and they pled no contest to the charge of possession of a gaming device. They forfeited their slot machines as well, and both groups will be destroyed.
