Online Poker Money Laundering for Terrorists

According to the governments of the United States and Britain, they have been tracking the illegal activities of three men who were laundering money through online slot machine and gambling casinos as a way of funding terrorism. They laundered their money through online slot machine and gambling casinos in more than a dozen countries, using thousands of different sites to do it.

The three men were found guilty last week, but it took the governments hundreds of hours to find where all of the money had gone and what sites they had used. They had used 130 different stolen credit cards, which just shows that the internet is a great place to use stolen goods.

The governments cannot stress enough that all online slot machine and gambling gaming operators must have strict anti-laundering policies or they are at risk of being exposed to the risk. They do not suffer the same exposure as banks and B&M casinos do, but they are still subject to civil suits and public backlash if they have had something to do with terrorism – albeit not of their knowledge.

There have been other suspected cases of terrorists laundering money through slot machine and gambling online sites, but this is the first time one has been so well documented and the men brought to trial. The men’s terrorist group used fake emails, such as asking people to verify their information on eBay, and used that financial information to steal money from them. That money then went to finance bombings in the US, Europe, and the Middle East.

Two of the men involved were Tariq al-Daour, 21, and Waseem Mughal, 24.
