Slot Machine Players Going to Jail?

The question that is on everyone’s minds these days is how liable are you if you play a slot machine that has faulty software and you win on it? What if you knew that it was faulty and played the slot machine anyway? What if you didn’t? And what if there was no way to tell the difference?

These questions and more are being batted about by John Colin, Chief Deputy Prosecutor for Harrison County. He has determined that “criminal intent” may be involved if a person plays a slot machine that they know is faulty, and if they win money on that slot machine, then they are in essence stealing from the casino that owns said slot machine.

Those that played the slot machine and won are being contacted about paying back the money that they took from the slot machine. However, what about those who lost on the faulty slot machine? Are they getting their money back? And how do the casinos know who played the slot machines and won if they didn’t use a player’s card? So by going after those that won on the slot machine and left a trail and not going after the other’s isn’t it discrimination on part of the casino?

Many of those contacted about the faulty slot machine have already given the money back, however, by the casino saying that many have returned it that means that some of those that they contacted told them they won that money at the slot machine fair and square. These are presumably the people that they are going after. But how do you know that you were playing a faulty slot machine and that you weren’t just lucky? There is seemingly no way to determine that, so how do you prosecute for that?
