Minister Wants More Slot Machines

Minister of Social Affairs and Health Liisa Hyysälä takes offense to the idea that the number of slot machines should be downgraded. She thinks that the amount of machines they currently have are just the right amount for the revenue that they need.

A recent report in the periodical Kaleva, has a quote from the Minister saying that the amount of money they get from the slot machines is imperative for them to succeed in making their bills. They say that Hyysälä says that the money from the state owned gambling and raffle monopoly – the Slot Machine Association, or RAY, is necessary for them to support the various social and health service organizations.

Hyysälä said that the organizations cover things that the state cannot, and if they lose their funding, these programs will cease to exist. She wants to keep the amount of money steady, and thus does not want to remove the slot machines from the shops and kiosks.

The government recently put forward a proposal that would limit the amount of slot machines that exist. They would also like to change the age limit for the use of those slot machines from 15 to 18.
