Casinos Making Slot Machines TighterSlot machines are the money makers for any casino. As they bring in more money than the table games, casinos can usually affect their bottom line quite drastically depending on how loose or tight they make their machines. Obviously the tighter the machine the less it pays back, and thus the more money made for the casino. With the financial climate being what it is, there are many casinos that are doing just that. They are choosing to make their slot machines tighter so that they can increase their revenues. As attendance goes down, so does the amount that they pay out. In Illinois they have changed their slot machine payout so that they are generating 20% more revenue than ever before. They have had a 13% drop in attendance for the past seven years, so they have really tightened them up. The amount of money that was coming into slot machines had increased 2% while the amount the casinos were winning jumped 30%. In 2000, 7% of their slot machines were returning less than 90%. Last year, 46% were returning less than 90% - so you can see it is a large jump for the casinos.
