Race Tracks May Have to Close
According to Governor Chris Christie – the tracks in The
Meadowlands has long been a symbol of racing in NJ – ever since
it opened in 1976. However, these changes would see an end to
the track altogether, or a drastic change from what they are
normally offering. The plan would disband the New Jersey Sports
and Exposition Authority – which is a state agency that operates
the race tracks that the governor is considering closing. The
horse racing industry has had a lot of problems over the past
few years as they have not been able to compete with those
tracks that offer slot machines to their clients.
The tracks have wanted to bring in slot machines, but the casinos always prevented them from doing so. Now it appears that their land might be of good use to the governor without the horses, but with slot machines instead. The tracks argue that if they are going to bring in slot machines that they could leave the horses as well – which is what they have been asking for for a number of years now.
