Slot Machine Supporters Give to Democrats

When asked who slot machine manufacturers and supporters were most likely going to donate to, most people said that they felt that Democrats would be more supportive of their cause. They believe that although the Republicans might be more apt to follow the desire for big business, they would not be more likely to support gambling. They believe that they were the driving force behind the passage of the online gambling legislation – the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA – and they felt that they would not want to see slot machines or anything of that kind proliferated.

They would actually be correct at least in the case of the candidates running for office in Ohio. Two companies that are interested in making sure that slot machines come into the state have given a total of $200k to the Democratic Governors Association. The groups have obviously decided that their chances of getting slot machines lie in the hands of the Democrats.

They are both supporters of slot machines in the state and they both have ties to Jeffrey Jacobs who is a big supporter of the slot machines in the state as well. The two companies – MTR Gaming Inc. and Jacobs Entertainment, Inc. – both made additional donations for $50K each the day after the governor announced that he would be working on the legal issues that are holding up bringing in slot machines to the state of Ohio. They are supporting ads that are attacking Republican candidate John Kasich.
