Governor Dead Set Against

Governor
Haley Barbour is making it his mission to block a Choctaw Indian
casino that could be coming to southeast
Supporters of the slot machine casino say that it is more about
the fact that the tribe does not have to give the county or the
state any of their revenue from the slot machines. They say that
the governor is more interested in keeping Tunica gaming
operations as they are and does not want them to lose any
revenue. They said that his talks about his concerns regarding
state roads and bridges not being able to hold increased weight
are nothing more than a smokescreen for what he really wants – a
monopoly on slot machine gambling in the state.
The tribe has already poured the concrete for the facility which will be rather small in size. It will have slot machines and a snack bar, but no hotel or golf course, or any of the other amenities that you normally see in a situation like this. The tribe is aware of the concerns of the governor and is still moving ahead as is their legal right to do so.
