Maryland
Looking at New Plan
The
state of Maryland is once again
revisiting the idea of the casino at the Rocky Gap Lodge and
Golf Resort. The state wants to bring in a casino there, but
they are having a hard time doing so. They previously put out a
call for proposals to come into the location and bring slot
machines, but they did not receive any legitimate bids the first
time around. Now they are offering the spot again and opening up
the bidding process, in hopes that they will get a better offer
than they did last time.
However,
they are wondering if there is more that they can do in order to
gain better bids. The state is offering better returns on their
investments for one – by allowing them to keep more of the slot
machine revenue that they would have previously given to the
state. They said that the one bid that looked promising last
year could reapply if they now have the money that they were
lacking at the last go around. They said that the location is
not the best one in the state, so they want to make it more
profitable and more “appealing” to those who might be interested
in operating the slot machines there.
They
said that there is also concern about the amount of slot machine
revenue that has fallen off at other states’ casinos – and
thinks that this might be one of the reasons why it has been so
tough to get in a good bid as they are afraid that they will not
recoup their losses.
