Nevada Gaming Commission Discussing Siena Hotel Situation

The Nevada Gaming Commission is going to be having a special hearing in Carson City to consider whether or not they will be suspending the Siena Hotel Spa Casino’s gaming license. They currently have a non restrictive slot machine license, but they also currently have back taxes to contend with as well. The Gaming Commission says that they have concerns regarding not just the idea of lapsed casino taxes but about their bank roll as well.

The casino says that they have made plans with the various agencies involved to pay back the slot machine debt issues and that they are planning on paying back everything they owe. They said that they are not “deflect[ing] their responsibilities” and that they understand how much trouble they are actually in. The problem is that there may not be much wiggle room for them to keep their slot machine license. Under Nevada law if a non restricted casino license holder falls behind three months on their casino fees and taxes they automatically surrender their slot machine license.

They said that they have been behind since March, but they have also given a check for $38,000 for one month of the delinquency. However, they owe another $77,000 for the other three months and they owe another $80,000 in slot machine fees as of July 1^st. The Board finds it unlikely that they are going to be able to meet their financial obligations. The casino says it was the previous management that got them into trouble and that they are playing catch up to keep their slot machine license.
