Slot Machines Still Are Not Decided

When the voters in the state of Maryland decided that slot machines could come in, they did not necessarily consider where they would be located. Instead, they voted the slot machines in and then some of them pitched a fit when they discovered where they were going to be. One of the locations for the slot machines is by the Arundel Mills Mall. This location does not sit well with the majority of residents as they say that the amount of traffic in that area is already too much. They argue that they were led to believe that the slot machines were going to be located at Laurel Park racetrack, which they felt was a safe distance from the mall. Once the smoke cleared however and the slot machines were legal, it was only then that they found out that the mall based proposal was the only one submitted to the state that had any validity.

So they have been fighting the idea of bringing in the slot machines, along with the Maryland Jockey Club who has been fighting to get the slot machines at the track as well. They have put a lot of money into anti slot machine drives and with a recent ruling they are most upset. Judge Silkworth’s ruling this week said that there was no evidence of fraud and that there did not seem to be any reason why the slot machines could not come into the state at that location. This was good news for the company that wants to bring in the slot machines and it was good news for the state as well.

The only ones not happy with the ruling were the residents and the Maryland Jockey Club as they were hoping to get a revote on the ballot in November and get the slot machines either at the track or not in the area at all.
