Methodists Against Table Games

With the passing of a measure to put table games in Ohio County, state Methodists feel that it is their time to speak up against the passing of the referendum in the two counties that have yet to vote. Jefferson County voters rejected the table games issue, but the group is unhappy that Ohio County residents decided to vote for them.

The West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church has approved a resolution that all have agreed upon on their stance on table gaming in West Virginia. The group just finished a four day conference on West Virginia’s Wesleyan College campus.

With Kanawha County voters going to the polls on August 11^th and Hancock County voting on June 30^th, they decided that it was time that they make their voices heard in the fight against expanded gambling. They are united in their opposition to the table games, and are urging state officials and residents to boycott the table games.

They also passed a resolution calling for comprehensive immigration reform. They want the obstacles that foreigners have to go through reduced, so that it is easier for them to settle in the United States and be able to call it their home.
