Armed Forces Becoming Gambling Addicts

A little known fact is that our young men and women stationed overseas are becoming addicted to gambling. According to a recent CNN program, the Department of Defense actually encourages their soldiers to gamble, because it brings in more money for the administration to be able to fund other things overseas. The money from gambling allows them to throw concerts for the soldiers, build swimming pools, etc. – basically other recreational activities.

Our soldiers are mostly young men and women, who do not have the experience to be killing people and defending themselves against their enemies, nor do they have the sophistication to know when to stop when it comes to gambling. They admit that they are bringing in about $100 million for those activities – but that money is coming from somewhere – namely our soldiers’ bank accounts, and they are being exploited by our own government.

It seems that the government could be using some of its military budget to pay for those entertainment items that the service men and women so richly deserve. How appropriate that they would get them addicted to gambling, and then send them home to a country that has made it illegal to do it online? They are creating an unnecessary problem for our youth – as if they didn’t have enough to worry about.

Gambling is addictive, everyone knows that. Some people are susceptible to it, and some are not. However, you take a group of young people without the savvy to know better, and you add in the fact that they are constantly fighting for their lives, and then allow them to blow off steam by playing an addictive hobby – come on! The number of military personnel that are addicted to slot machines is double that of the general population – and the government is supporting it.
