Mayor Supporting Son in Casino Scam

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels has released a statement to the effect that he supports his son, and that he and his wife Sharon will be “encouraging him to cooperate fully with the investigation.” Nickels said that he would not comment on any of the charges until he knew more of the situation.

Nickels went on to say that they supported him completely throughout the entire situation, and that they “love him deeply.” He said that they had just learned of the charges, and would not be commenting on any outcome or status of the charges until they had more information.

The mayor’s son, Jacob Nickels, is accused of participating in a multi-state scam that took millions of dollars from casinos nationally. Nickels is accused of assisting them at the Nooksack Casino in Whatcom County, where he was a pit boss. He allegedly introduced dealers to the scam artists and was paid $5,000 for it.

City Hall members showed their support for the mayor and his son, with many of them saying that Jacob was a good kid and that they didn’t think that he would be found guilty of such a crime. They say he was a quiet and decent guy, and that they just had a hard time believing that he was involved in something like this. Many said that if he was found guilty, that it would simply be the case where he had made a mistake, and that he was still a good kid – that this would be a one time thing if he is guilty of it.
