Kanawha County Fire and Police Support Games

Kanawha County fire and police employees are supporting the table games referendum, and are encouraging voters to say yes to adding them to the existing slot machines at the Tri-State Racetrack. They have allowed their names and faces to be put on a flyer that has been distributed to households in support of the games. The county will vote on the table games on August 11^th, and supporters and opposition alike are gearing up for the fight.

With quotes such as "We live in one of the safest areas in America" on the front and "And we'll keep Kanawha County safe!" on the inside of the flyer, along with photos of police officers and firefighters across the county all over the mailers, it gives a strong message to voters as to how they would like them to vote. They say that not only will it help with their pensions, but it will also give much needed jobs and increase tourist traffic in the county.

The flyer continues with a quote on the back that says "Voting yes for table games won't cause crime to increase." and opponents say that it is just not true. They say that a recent report that has come out says that after one year of gambling, crime does not usually increase. However, by the five year mark it has greatly increased.

The state officials say that that might be the case for an area that did not already have slot machines, but since they do, table games should not add all that much more crime. Besides, they say that with the additional 1,000 jobs that the racetrack is promising, along with the really nice salaries that they will be offering, the police say that it reason enough to support them.
