County Workers Support GamesThe West Virginia Family Foundation is horrified by what they call an exploitation of county emergency personnel. They say that law enforcement should not be getting involved in the table games debate that has been running rampant over the state. They say that this is one more example of what gambling can do to people. They say it makes “them do things that they wouldn’t normally do.” The issue began when flyers went out in the mail with Charleston Police Chief Brent Webster, Nitro Police Chief Jack Jordan, St. Albans Police Chief Joe Crawford and Nitro firefighters Ron King and Corey Dean on them in support of table games. These officers, along with the state’s Fraternal Order of Police President, H. Stephen Walker, tell why law enforcement officials were urging voters to approve the table games in Kanawha County. They say that they are supporting the table games because the games won’t increase crime, but they will help increase their pensions. They also say that there will be more jobs, and more tourism dollars being spent, and that both are badly needed. They are allowed to appear in the flyers because the election is non partisan, and it isn’t a person being elected. There was
one small error though, the flyers were printed before the vote
date was settled, and they say June 9th is the date.
The actual date for the table game vote is August 11th.
The flyers were made up by the racetracks’ Vote Yes for Kanawha
marketing campaign.
