All Female Tournaments Play Fair

Funny, you get a bunch of men together to play Texas Hold’em and they will be competitive to the point where they get truly mad at each other. However, you get women together and they are apologizing for winning.

Let me back up…Foxwoods Resort Casino had a women-only poker tournament that was meant as fun, but also as a good way to get to play the game without getting caught up in all that male testosterone. The women sat around the table like the men did, but it was more of a bonding experience than a competitive one. The same rules were applied; the only difference is that no men were allowed.

But this was a good experience for many women to play at these games without feeling intimidated by having men there. Each woman was genuinely rooting for themselves as well as every other woman there. For as women, we like to see each other succeed, but we don’t really understand that by rooting them on we are asking to lose. Men get this, women don’t – or at least these women didn’t.

Round and round it goes, some folding, some putting in more money, until finally it is down to two women vying for the pot. The last card is turned over and one wins, one loses. However, what made this a memorable moment was that the one who took the other’s chips apologized for taking them…and meant it.
