Gambling Addiction Increasing

Gambling counselors in Kansas are concerned about the toll that slot machines could take on the gambling addicts in their state. They say that once gambling takes a foothold in a state, it only increases from there. They say that by bringing slot machines closer to the gamblers, they are only asking for trouble.

Experts say that the number of addicts will greatly increase with the addition of slot machines in the state. They say that the elderly and young adults are particularly prone to developing slot machine addictions. They say that with the state allowing slot machines at the tracks, and bringing in four state owned casinos, they are going to bring in a level of addiction that they are not prepared for.

Sumner County has already approved a casino, and Sedgwick County will vote in August as to whether or not to approve the issue as well. Gambling experts say that by legalizing the slot machines and the casinos they are going to see an increase in bankruptcies, family breakups and suicides that will ultimately follow slot machine addiction.

With gambling addiction so easy to hide, it is no wonder that so many people can be addicted to slot machines and the like for so long without anyone discovering it. It isn’t like you can smell it on someone’s breath or see the track marks on their arms – slot machine and gambling addiction is a road that one travels on their own for a long time before they finally admit to someone that they have a problem. It is much rarer that someone figure it out on their own before the gambler tells them what they have done.
