Wheeling Needs Games to CompeteWheeling Island could not be happier that the table games have been approved. The track had already started making plans for the expansion, as they were positive that the voters would see how important it was to the track, and to their community to legalize the games. If the games had not been legalized, the track would have had to lay off somewhere around 300 people, instead they will now be looking to add at least 500 more jobs to their roster. Wheeling says that they have already started an $8 million expansion to move the slot machines, as where they are located now is just not working. The slot machines are currently on an area of the property called The Fairgrounds, however, that area has flooded three times over the past three years, so they know that the slot machines have to be moved – whether or not table games had been approved. There will be space for 400 slot machines, a bar, and 20 tournament poker tables. They are going to build a hotel tower, and move the table games into the new structure as well as the old one. They say that they have been competing with the Meadows now that they have slot machines, and with them only being a half hour from them they have taken a lot of their business. They say that the table games will bring clients back that may have gone to the new place, or perhaps were located closer to them that decided not to drive.
