Even With Horses, It Is a Slot MachineOhio lawmakers are considering the addition of slot machines to the state to help their racetracks make money. Although they are not calling them slot machines, they are calling them video terminals. And instead of lemons, cherries and lucky number sevens, they are galloping horses – but ask anyone and they will tell you that they look like slot machines to them. Ohioans have voted time and time again to keep slot machines out of their state. They recently supported two casinos in Cleveland only because they promise to give the area help with their economy. But they have made it very clear that they are not interested in racetracks and slot machines sharing the same space. Supporters of the machines say that they are not slot machines - that they are horse racing machines, and that people would be able to bet on horses running on their screens. They would be put at the horse racing tracks to help them with dropping sales. However, if people aren’t paying to see horses run live, what makes them think that they are going to pay to watch races that have already happened? However, the Senate seems to be more interested in what the lobbyists think than what the residents of Ohio think, because they keep telling them no, and the Senate is not listening. The Senate has approved the measure, so now it is up to the House to do the bidding of the people instead of their pockets.
