Slot Machines Squeezing Horses

Philadelphia Park is not living up to its promises, according to the Pennsylvania Horsemen’s Association. They are complaining that the slot machine casino has promised the association one thing, but is actually planning quite another.

The racetrack has made a request to make the current temporary slot machine facility made into its permanent one, and the horsemen say that is just not acceptable. They say that they don’t mind sharing the space with the slot machines for a couple of years, but that they are already pushed into a corner, literally.

The slot machines have taken up a large portion of the existing facility, and horsemen say it just is not acceptable to expect them to continue this way. They say there just isn’t enough room at the current place for both slot machines and horse racing patrons. They say that they are suffering because of it, as patrons have dropped off because of the slot machines.

They are awaiting word from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to see if they are going to approve the request, so the horsemen can only wait to see what will happen. The casino has also requested more slot machines, as they say they are performing better than Atlantic City per machine. They say that they intend on opening another facility on the property, that they just want to buy themselves some time in which to do so.
