Many Excited By Rejected ProposalThere is much to be celebrated on the reservations today – the National Indian Gaming Association has decided not to reclassify bingo machines. There was talk that many bingo machines were now going to be considered slot machines with the new classifications. It started when some people were wondering what the true classification should be for many bingo games. They thought that many of today’s bingo games were starting to look more like slot machines and they wanted the classification re-examined. So the National Indian Gaming Commission looked into it and was going to re-classify some of the bingo games as slot machines. This did not sit well with the tribes as they are only allowed so many slot machines, or none at all. Therefore if they were reclassifying some of the bingo games to slot machines, they would have to get rid of those machines that were not legal, or over their limit. The changing of machines from Class II to Class III could be financially devastating to the tribes. Needless
to say, the majority, if not all, of the tribes were excited
that the plan to reclassify the bingo to slot machines was
shelved for now.
