Slot Machine OpponentsThe group Marylanders United to Stop Slots are trying to get the word spread across the state that slot machines are not to be legalized in November. They are trying to get information out about the machines that they believe most people don’t know or they would not be in support of the slot machines. The state is looking to bring in slot machines in several areas of the state, and the group is planning on holding press conferences in each of those areas to inform local residents of the danger of allowing slot machines in. They recently held their first one, and they will be holding at least four more. Supporters of the slot machines say that they don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want the benefits that come from the slots. They say that it will bring in millions for the state’s educational system, and it will keep the racetracks from going under. By keeping the tracks alive, they save thousands of jobs from extinction thus keeping residents from being on unemployment. However, their opponents say that the price of keeping those jobs is just too high. They say that the slot machines will fund these jobs by taking advantage of the poor and uneducated – and that just isn’t fair.
