Laurel Still Fighting for Slot Machines

Laurel Racing is still trying to get their bid for slot machines legalized as they say that they were unfairly shut down because of the way that the bids were worded. They have already been turned down before, but now they are appealing the decision to see what might come out of it.

They were turned down for the slot machine license as they failed to put up the money for the bid. They argued at the time that the wording in the bid did not say that they would get their money back if they did not get the slot machine license. So instead of handing over $28.5 million to the state, instead they put it into an account that would be turned over to the state if needed.

The state says that they did not comply with the terms of the deal which was to hand the money over, and therefore they are not eligible for the slot machine license. They say that they are disqualified and they are not interested in their reasons why. They say that the money was refundable and that they did not feel that this was why they truly did not pay up. They felt it was more an issue of “marketing reasons.”

They feel that Laurel Racing did not put up the money and therefore they are disqualified. They say that they are now trying to make it look like it was because of the wording, but that is not why they refused to turn in the money in the first place. They say that this is just their latest reason and that they should not be able to come in and change the reason why.
