Phony Slot Machines

It seems that Florida is getting a reputation for being the illegal gambling capital of the world. Just earlier this month there was a bust in Pinellas County for online gambling. Now there seems to be an illegal slot machine vendor in Cape Coral.

Henry Mantilla has owned a gaming business in Cape Coral that was recently raided by police and FBI agents. He is accused of making phony slot machines and bringing them to Southwest Florida in order to make money off of them. He has been under investigation, but no one knew that this was going on until Thursday’s raid on the slot machine establishment.

According to the 35 year old Mantilla, he hasn’t done anything illegal, but it would seem that the FBI would beg to differ. They have accused him of producing and selling counterfeit slot machines, and they say that he has been doing it for about two years. The FBI says that he copied the slot machine computer programs from International Game Technology, and then put the programs into his computers. He stuck labels on the programs, installed them in the cabinets that hold legal slot machines, and then sold them at Southeast Gaming Incorporated in Cape Coral.

Needless to say, IGT was not aware of the transactions. Two months ago the FBI came and took the slot machines, and the business is now closed. Mantilla said that his slot machines were legal and that others were trying to get him in trouble. He says that he has never been in trouble with the law before and that this was merely “big businesses shutting down small businesses.”
