Deal Reached with KnappDaniel L. Knapp, the owner of the Sandcastle Lounge, has come to an agreement with the District Attorney over the illegal slot machines that Knapp owns. The bar was raided in May of 2006 and illegal slot machines were discovered on the premises. The police ordered Knapp to relinquish the slot machines and their contents but Knapp refused. With Knapp’s refusal to give the police the slot machines, the DA had no choice but to bring criminal charges against Knapp for the operation of illegal slot machines. Knapp pled not guilty at the hearing, and was to appear for a pre-trial in April. However, now the Assistant DA and Knapp have come to an agreement so that Knapp can avoid a criminal trial. The DA has ordered Knapp to give the police all of their illegal slot machines and their contents, and he must allow the police to search his business for more illegal slot machines which would also be seized. Knapp is to stop all illegal gambling immediately, and cannot partake in it anytime in the future. If Knapp refuses any of the terms, or if he breaks the agreement and starts using illegal slot machines or gambling of any kind, he will face criminal charges and possibly jail time. Knapp has so far agreed to all of the regulations set forth by the DA.
