It seems so simple, and yet, no one has thought of it before. They give out drinks at the slot machines and tables, why wouldn’t they serve food also? It is one more way of keeping people playing.

The industry isn’t quite sure what to make of it, as usually the idea is to give players alcohol to lessen their inhibitions in playing. But with food, they might not spend as much – but they will be sitting there playing – so who is to say. Many experts think it is brilliant – claiming that for all of those people who don’t drink, giving them food is the next best thing.

They say it shows that the casino industry is now looking to cater to those that don’t have as large a bankroll as some. They say that the regular player, one that will spend money at the slot machines more regularly than the high rollers, is the person they should now be focusing on. For the casino, it was about making people happy, an in turn, making them stay.

The people who run the El Cortez went to the Barona casino first to see how it would work, and found people eating lobster at the roulette table. El Cortez will be the second casino in town to offer food to the casino floor, but they will be the first to offer it to their slot machine players. There will be a one page menu with items that cost half of what they do in the café – easy stuff they can eat with one hand and pull the slot machine lever with the other.
