French Lick Gets a Tax BreakThe new law that was just passed in the House would give French Lick a tax break if slot machines are passed at Indiana’s racetracks. The government thinks that if they are forced to contend with all of the tracks having slot machines that it will reduce the amount of revenue that the casino is bringing in, and therefore they need some extra help. The new bill would exempt the casino from paying the $4 per person admission tax for five years if they are forced to compete with the tracks’ slot machines. The bill, House Bill 1835, passed the House and is now on its way to the Senate for possible approval. The French Lick Casino is the smallest casino in the state, and gets more than 25% of their people from the Indianapolis area, and if slot machines are legalized at the tracks, they will reportedly lose a large chunk of their revenue. They say that people will not come to their casino to play the slot machines if they know that they can just go to their own backyard to play them instead. They say that they will be doomed to failure, and that any profit they are currently making they would not be. They said there is a good chance that they will end up below their break-even mark as well. They say that the little casino would suffer the worse out of any of the casinos in the state.
