Stanley Ho Hung-sun Does It Again

Stanley Ho Hung-sun somehow manages to always be the cream at the top of Macau’s milk – and he has done it again. Saturday night he welcomed visitors to his newest venture – The Grand Lisboa. This is a man who dominates the Macau slot machine and gambling industry, and now he has one more slot machine casino to add to his list.

Even with other casinos coming in, Ho still controls 63% of the gambling Mecca of Macau. Now, with Macau’s slot machine revenue surpassing that of Las Vegas, it is even that more impressive how much he still owns. The man used to control pretty much all of it, but he still owns a majority share and that is what matters.

The Grand Lisboa opened with a 430 room hotel, 240 table games, 484 slot machines, etc. just in time for the Lunar New Year break. Thousands of Chinese gamblers flooded the city and the casino in order to partake in their celebrations. The new casino stands next to the old Casino Lisboa, and makes it look like the red headed stepchild of the industry. The new casino is shaped like a lotus, and most agree that the golden hued glass that covers the dome is a magnificent sight to behold.

One of the things that Ho does differently from other casinos is that he caters to everyone, including those that spend very little. He says that it is more important to spend your time and money bringing in the little guy than it is to work on the one who is already spending millions in your casino. This is obviously a theory that has worked for him, and it doesn’t look to be changing any time soon.
