Ignacio Casino Resort Breaks Ground

The Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio has officially broken ground and construction has begun. The Southern Ute Tribe started construction last month on a 60 acre parcel of land. The resort will have up to 150 hotel rooms as well as 700 slot machines when completed.

The casino says that they will be employing somewhere between four and six hundred people in permanent positions, as well as hundreds of temporary construction jobs over the next two years. They have not said how much it will cost to complete construction on the slot machine casino, but it will not be paid for by tribal money. In fact, the casino will be paid for by bond issue which the casino would then repay with slot machine and casino revenues.

The casino will have everything from slot machines and table games to a bowling alley and indoor lazy river. They will also have outdoor miniature golf and about 18,000 sq ft of banquet facilities. Although the tribe will not be selling alcohol on the floor because of regulations, they will offer it during special events. They have also agreed to give half of all proceeds from these alcohol sales at the events to alcohol treatment and prevention programs.
