Michigan Testing the Slot Machine WatersIt looks like there is a rather large coalition of residents of Michigan who would like to see slot machines legalized at the state’s six race tracks. They are looking to see if they can get on the 2008 statewide ballot to get approval to bring in the slot machines. Many legislators are behind the idea of bringing in slot machines at the tracks and one even said that it was a “no brainer.” They say that they are trying to bring in money for other things, and legalizing slot machines at the tracks would do that for the state. However, the existing Detroit and Indian casinos are not going to be happy with the competition. Experts say that they think the two groups will join forces and put some serious money behind keeping the slot machines illegal there. When Proposal 1 was adopted they put more than $20 million making sure that it was approved. The proposal says that everyone but them has to get statewide and local community votes to be able to open. However, the legislature says that despite all of this it still stands a chance to get on the ballot, but probably not approved.
