MTR Gaming Excited by PA Court Ruling

MTR Gaming Group announced today that the ruling of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court is just what they needed to get Presque Isle Downs opened. Presque Isle is a subsidiary of MTR and they had a Petition for Review of the Order pending against them, which was holding up the casinos slot machine license.

However, the PA Supreme Court granted their motion to “quash” the petition, and now they are back on track. The petition had been filed by a group called the Citizens Against Gambling Subsidies, which was formed recently by the Pennsylvania Corporation and former City Solicitor of Erie, Paul F. Curry.

The company says that they are pleased with the outcome of the court case as they never believed that it had any merit and the PA Supreme Court obviously felt the same way. They did say however, that they would be “seeking redress for the damages the petition caused” as it held up the opening of the slot machine casino for a significant amount of time.

However, the slot machine casino still has to wait for the Gaming Board to conduct their inspections and see how they perform on their test dates. They are also waiting for the newest member of the Gaming Control Board to finish up his background check before he can vote, and the board cannot vote without him. They could have voted before the change was made, except for the fact that the petition was standing in the way.

They hope to have the full slot machine casino, restaurants, bars, etc. open before the end of the month.
