New Bill Would Protect Casinos

The new bill that the casinos are trying to push through the legislature, Senate Bill 47, is set up to protect the casinos from any outside competition. The bill would make sure that the new NASCAR track that may be built would not be able to add slot machines and thus infringe on the casinos’ right to make money.

Not only does this bill seem unfair to every other business out there, but it also seems that it would give the casinos an unfair advantage and a monopoly on the slot machine industry. This bill is not about car races, for other states such as Delaware allow slot machines and have racing, and neither one messes with the other.

The bill would change the definition of the video lottery terminals to slot machines, and the gaming commission would take over regulation of them. It would also prevent any other slot machines from coming in unless the majority of voters in the state approved them. It would also require the people to vote as to whether or not there would be limitations on the terms that the casinos use in reference to “limited gaming” and “slot machines.”

Basically what that means is that there would be no limit on the number of slot machines that the casinos have unless the whole state voted there to be, nor would any slot machines be allowed outside the casinos without that same vote. It protects the casinos from competition, while allowing them to run rampant within the state. Many feel the bill should not be allowed, as the casinos are once again taking advantage, and many feel lawmakers are letting them.
