D’Amato Fights for Online Poker

Senator Alfonse D’Amato has announced that he will be joining the Poker Players Alliance as Chairman of the Board, and will be leading the charge in Washington DC. The 18 year senator is going to use his experience to fight for the rights of the grassroots campaign and the rights of all poker players.

The organization has more than 160,000 members, and is excited that such a high profile Senator would choose to assist them in their fight. He says he is an online poker player himself for many years and is going to fight to keep that right. He wants poker players to be able to enjoy the game whether they are in a land based casino or online – it should be their choice.

D’Amato told the New York Times that by prohibiting online poker playing all the government was doing was making more of a problem then there was before. He says the industry should be regulated, not driven underground. He says he is going to make sure that Congress is aware of that fact, as the American people already know it. He says that by not regulating it they are leaving the people to the underhandedness of the companies who will step forward to take advantage of them, and they are removing any hope for gambling addiction assistance programs.

He says that they will be working for new regulations for the industry, perhaps providing a skill game exemption for the game of poker first. Then they can look at adding “eventual regulation and taxation” of the industry for slot machines and other online gambling games.
