Many Opposed to Charity Gambling at TracksThe Granite State Coalition is not happy with the goings on at tracks such as Seabrook Greyhound Park. The group is against expanded gambling, and they say that it is against state law for the way the gambling has been going on. They say that the law is very clear about what kinds of gambling and the limits that are placed on both the gambling and the wagering. Executive Committee Chairman Jim Rubens said that the enforcement of the gambling rules and regulations should be left to law agencies, not to the Pari-Mutuel Commission – who he says is nothing more than a gambling agency that is looking out for themselves and the cut the state will get from these illegal games. He said that they are only allowed $2 bet limit on games of chance, and he says that the track has been allowing much higher wagers and no one is calling them on it. He says that the law does not allow high-stakes poker and by hosting these “charity events” they are breaking the law. He and the rest of the group believe that they are taking steps toward bringing in slot machines at racetracks permanently, and that they are just using the charitable organizations as a front.
