Patterson Wants RacinosOakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is looking to bring back racinos, as he thinks it is the best idea for helping out the state’s budget problems. He said they have looked at many possibilities, but slot machines at the tracks will bring in more than the other options as well as bring it in faster. He is hoping to get a proposal for the legalization of slot machines on the 2008 ballot. Patterson says that they could have the racinos and their slot machines up and running in less than a year, and they would bring in more than $1.7 billion in annual revenue. He said that he is not alone in his quest, as there are many groups who would like to see the slot machines legalized. He said that the campaign to legalize the slot machines would have “a lot of money behind it.” He said that the slot machines would be the perfect way to pay for the Cobo Center expansion, as well as bring in more money for the state budget. He said that although the slot machines and racinos were banned in 2004, he feels that the times are different now and people would embrace them. He said
that instead of having another tax on services, they could use
the revenue from the slot machines and the racinos to fill the
void. He said he knows of six sites that are interested in
bringing in the slot machines – besides his own. Back to March Index - Slot Machines Fan |
