Three Plead Guilty to Slot Machine Possession

Ray Catlett and Gloria Islam of Sapulpa, and Deborah McCarter of Tulsa, pled guilty to possession of slot machines in Creek County District Court on Friday. The fourth defendant, Diane Webster – also of Sapulpa, did not appear in court to enter a plea and a bench warrant was taken under advisement for her.

The three that pled guilty were assessed a 90-day deferred sentence, during which time they were to stay out of trouble. If they did, they were told that the slot machine charges would be dropped. They would each have to pay $100 in court costs, but that would be all. Webster ended up being issued another court date, and she is to appear March 9^th now.

Creek County Sheriff Deputies did a sweep of area convenience stores last May and discovered the illegal slot machines. They filed charges in October, which was completed by Pam Hammers, Creek County Assistant District Attorney, who said they had claimed that the slot machines were simply a way to get phone cards but that no one was actually playing to get the phone cards.

The District Attorney’s Office said that it took them so long to file charges after the illegal slot machines were found because they had to read the statutes to see if they were legal or not. The three that showed up to plead were working as clerks at the time of the raid. Webster is the owner of a convenience store and was cited for possession of two illegal slot machines.
