Twin River Casino

Lincoln Park is now known as Twin Rivers, and people are coming by the herds to play the slot machines and hang out. The Friday Grand Opening brought in more people than expected, with hundreds of patrons waiting to come in and stand in line for one of the slot machines. The $220 million project opened a new slot machine casino, as well as a bar, restaurants, cashier booths, and a theatre.

With close to 5,000 slot machines, the casino is expected to do very well for itself, but even management seemed overwhelmed by the turnout. Len Wolman, principal of BLB Investors, LLC – the owners of Twin River – said that he wanted to thank everyone but that they would “be here all day” if he did.

The casino is expected to bring in somewhere close to $255 million a year in revenue, of which 60% will go to the state. That will make up about 7.5% of the state’s current revenue. It was set up to compete with the other surrounding casinos – those that are a draw for residents that have no problem going over to Connecticut to play the slot machines over there. They are hoping that the new casino will dissuade that behavior and keep the money in state instead.

They may get their wish as many of the patrons there for the first day spin on the slot machine said that they preferred the casino to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, and that they would have no problem staying in Rhode Island to play the slot machines instead of going across to Connecticut. This of course, is exactly what Twin Rivers’ management wants to hear.
