Northern Winz Opening was Big

Those that attended the grand opening of the Northern Winz Casino were not disappointed in what they were hoping to see. The attendees said it was just like having Las Vegas in Box Elder, and that this was a very good thing for Montana. The Chippewa Cree Tribe seems to have made its mark, and made it well.

The Tribal Chairman, John “Chance” Houle said that the slot machines were running, and they couldn’t be happier. He said that many tribes are envious of what they have managed to do there, but they are simply trying to provide for their tribe. He said they needed the money for economic development, and the slot machines and gambling are going to do that for them.

Tribal members got their first peel Wednesday night, with the general public getting to see it at 9 am the next day. The casino has 350 bingo slot machines and 10 Montana keno and poker machines as well. They also have a poker room with four tables. The reservation is a sovereign nation, so they can legally offer the Las Vegas style slot machines. They also don’t have to follow state limits of 20 slot machines and $800 maximum jackpots like everyone else has to.

The casino thinks that their jackpots will probably range to $30,000 – which is a big deal competition wise. After about an hour at the opening, the casino had already reached its maximum capacity of 900 and several people had already hit jackpots. There were lines for the poker tables and the slot machines, and the only empty seats were those in front of machines that were not working. The casino said they will spend the next month working out the slot machines and training their employees with the crowds.
