Don’t Count Slot Machines Out YetAccording to the rumor mill, it seems that although Governor Deval Patrick will not be getting his casinos in the state, they might still be getting the slot machines. There is a bill currently sitting in there that would allow slot machines at the tracks within the state, even though it would not allow full casinos. It seems that a compromise might be in the works for the state as proponents agree it would be a good move for them to do so. They claim that they would be able to bring in slot machines and have them up and running in 100 days. They point out that with the $50 million in licensing fees that would come in, you are looking at an immediate $200 million for the state. However, some like State Representative Daniel Bosley remains dedicated to keeping the slot machines out. He says that if you allow the slot machines to come in to the tracks it merely opens the door to more gambling. No matter how many you start with, you will always have more than you want. He is not alone in his concerns. Others say that by allowing slot machines at the tracks, you are opening the door to a Native American casino as well. They say that without them the tribe will have a harder time getting them, but once you give the rest of the state slot machines there is no reason why the tribe won’t be able to get permission for theirs as well.
