Tracks Want Slot Machines TooThe horse racing industry in Florida has a problem, and a big old complaint. It would seem that they have been trying for years to bring in slot machines and those in South Florida have finally gotten the go ahead from their residents. However, with a deal being struck with the Seminole Indian tribe to give them slot machines, the rest of the state wants to know where they stand. There are tracks throughout the state that say that if the tribe is allowed slot machines than they want them as well. They say that they can have the poker games, they don’t care – however they do want to be able to get their piece of the slot machine pie for their tracks. They are trying to get the State of Florida’s government to overturn the ruling that gives the tribes slot machines exclusively, and they want to open it up to others to have the same opportunity. They say that the way that it is worded it would make it very tough for them to compete with the tribe, so they want the state to change the terms. Many think that it is just a matter of changing the terms some, while others say that this bill needs a complete overhaul. They want to see it made more equal among the tribe and the tracks so that everyone can benefit. Otherwise they say that what little business they are getting now is going to change as their clients go over to the slot machines and gambling games at the tribes’ casinos.
