If At First You Don’t Succeed…

It would appear that the state of Minnesota is trying once again to get a new stadium for their Vikings. The state wants to bring in a new stadium but times being what they are it can be difficult to ask for money when it just is not there. The state has kicked around the idea of bringing in slot machines before in order to pay for it, but they were shot down as residents did not want slot machines legalized in their state.

But now that lawmakers have been seriously considering whether or not to bring in slot machines for their budgetary woes, there are those that are now wondering how this might affect the plan to bring in a stadium for the football team. They say that the amount of money that would come in from the slot machines would be so much that there would easily be more than enough to pay for the budget and the stadium as well.

So the sponsors of the “Jobs, Family and Economic Development Fund” say that there is no reason why the slot machine revenue couldn’t go toward a new stadium. They say that the estimated $125 millions hould go towards things like early childhood development, research in the medical field, etc. – but it should also go toward “athletic and recreational facilities” for the people of the state. Some argue that the stadium only benefits the football players and those that can afford to purchase tickets to see the games, while others point out that this same stadium brings in much needed money for the state.

Proponents say that the slot machines would be the perfect way to get a much needed stadium for their team, but with the majority of people still against bringing in slot machines period, experts say that the bill really does not stand a very good chance of getting passed. They say that if people agree to slot machines, they aren’t doing it for a new stadium.
