Greece
Getting Ready for Live Betting
The
country of Greece
is moving forward into the gambling world. They have taken steps
to get their residents the ability to gamble at live sporting
events and it would appear that everything is finally coming
into place. Their largest gambling firm, OPAP, is moving forward
with their plans to launch live betting as a way to bring in
more revenue for the company.
Lottery monopoly has hit an all time low for them, and
they are trying to find ways to come back from it. They have
seen their revenue from it halved in the fourth quarter due to
corporate taxes that the government is making them pay – so they
have to find a way to raise that amount of revenue back up.
Their
shares have recently jumped as they have seen lower distribution
costs and more revenues from their Keno game. The company said
that they are planning on launching it this year and they are
hoping to be able to do so before the World Cup. The company is
34% owned by the state, but they have the exclusive ability to
offer the ports betting and lotteries for another ten years.
They say
that they need the government to step up its efforts to crack
don on illegal slot machines as they are responsible for taking
a large portion of their gambling revenue. They said that the
government is also considering deregulating low price slot
machines so that they could escape having to pay additional EU
fines.
