Illegal Gambling Raid

It is always amazing to see the things that people will think that they are going to be able to get away with. Time and time again we hear from police that they have arrested someone who was trying to pull something over on them only to find themselves caught in the process. One of the biggest areas we see this in is gambling. There are people across the country who just woke up one day and decided to get illegal slot machines and run their own operation – and truly believed that they would not get caught doing it. Even better is the ones that decide to do it in their place of business as opposed to hiding it in the homes.

Eventually what happens is that someone goes into one of these little bars or whatnot and either sees the illegal slot machine and reports it, or the people running the store make them angry in some way and they report them then. Either way, someone always calls the police with an anonymous tip and the next thing you know – you are being raided.

That is pretty much what happened here – in a convenience store in Lakeland, Georgia. Someone called the Lakeland Police Department and told them that there was an illegal slot machine operation going on. Police took their time and went in undercover to make sure that there was in fact an illegal activity going on.

They went in to the back room and sure enough there were five illegal slot machines operating and the owners of the convenience store were paying out their customers with cash. The fact of the matter is that slot machines are legal in the state of Georgia, but by paying out in cash they made them illegal. They could have paid out in store merchandise instead which could have kept it legal. The police said that they confiscated the slot machines as well as over $9,000 in cash.
