Senator Pushing for Slot Machines

There are many within New Hampshire that do not want to see slot machines legalized. They have a very large number of residents that like life the way that it is now. The anti slot machine groups say that if people want to gamble badly enough there are plenty of places that offer slot machines over the borders and that they should go there. They are dead set that the only thing that slot machines will bring them is trouble.

However, State Senator Lou D’Allesandro told the Senate Finance Committee that slot machines could do a lot of good for the state and that they should really consider it. He says that there are millions of dollars in licensing fees that would come into the state, along with the money that would come from the slot machines themselves.

D’Allesandro wants the first chunk of money to go to the social service programs that have been cut by an overwhelmed budget. He said that the money that initially comes from the licensing of the slot machines should immediately go to the Department of Health and Human Services as a one time infusion of money. He said that the services that this department provides are truly invaluable and cannot be let go. This bill would allow the first $50 billion that came from the slot machine licensing fees to go directly to the programs that needed it the most.

His bill would also legalize slot machines at six locations within the state. It is no coincidence that two of them are on their border with Massachusetts in an attempt to draw money from the state of Massachusetts as well as from that side of New Hampshire. It would have one golf resort and convention center right at the border and slot machines at three race tracks and at two other locations in North Country. When all was said and done, 17,000 slot machines would be legal in the state, and then if the locations wanted to add table games they could for an additional fee.
