Slot Machines and Truck Stops

When you think of truck stops, you get an image no matter who you are. If you are not really familiar with them you might think of them as dirty little holes in the middle of nowhere that don’t have much to offer. But what is interesting about truck stops is that they truly vary from state to state. Not only do they change as you go from one state to another, but the rules and regulations of the truck stops seem to be almost pliable.

There are many truck stops within the same state that will offer different things. One place that this is apparent is with slot machines. There are many times that you will travel through a state that you know slot machines are illegal in, only to find that there are slot machines at that location. The police don’t seem to care – after all they aren’t doing any harm. But you see them quite often.

Why? Well, for starters, truck stops are an entity all their own. They seem to follow their own rules, and they don’t stir up trouble. Truckers come in and out in an attempt to get some food, fuel or rest for themselves before heading out on the road. The road is a lonely place, and sometimes coming to a truck stop can break up that monotony for a little while.

This is where the slot machines come in. Quite often they are nickel slots and you can sit there for a while and kill some time playing them before you get back out on the road. Some play the slot machines and win, many play them just because it is something to do. The police don’t seem to care much about the illegal slot machines because they know that they aren’t hurting anyone and that they just need a break.
