Kasich’s Budget Proposal

Governor John Kasich may be out of touch with the wants of the people in his state. According to the Plain Dealer – a newspaper in Ohio – the governor is looking to make a lot of changes and none of them are what the people of Ohio want to see. His plan for the budget is all about cutting things and the people of Ohio want him to look at ways of bringing in more money like slot machines instead.

According to the survey that they did, the majority of people felt that his choices to cut the education budget and to not raise taxes on things like alcohol and cigarettes was a bad move. They felt that there were many other things that he could be doing instead, and that penalizing our youth and rewarding the sinners was not it. Instead they felt that the choices were clear – raise taxes on those so called sinner items, and bring in slot machines at race tracks.

The governor did not initially add in the option of slot machines, rather was looking more toward education cuts instead. However, sources close to the governor say that he is now considering bringing in slot machines as a source of revenue depending on what their study comes up with. They are going to wait and see how the study fares before moving into that category. The state says that there are many other options that should be considered first – but he had better be careful or come Election Day his constituents might be considering other options as well.
