Second Life Adding PrecautionsSecond Life’s creators, Linden Lab, have decided to add an updated registration system to their online casino. They are now taking precautions against those that might be scoping out younger children and therefore making it an unsafe environment for those under the age of 18. After having the FBI do a probe of the company, they decided that it would be in their best interests, as well as those of their clients, to ad the registration system. What it would do is create two classifications of users for the online community. There would be verified and unverified users. The verified users would be those that have submitted identification and have given payment to the company – and unverified would be those who have not. This allows them to know who is over 18 and who isn’t and keep them where they should be. Second Life has always been about their “residents” being responsible for themselves and abiding by the laws that are set up where they live. However, with reality being what it is, it is necessary to take some precautions – such as making sure that those that are under 18 do not go into adult areas and vice versa. For those that wander over they will be returned to their side, and those adults that are found in teen areas will kicked out permanently.
