IGT Slot Machines Approved

International Game Technology just received approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission that their new server based slot machines had passed their testing. IGT has had 20 of their new slot machines sitting over in the Treasure Island Hotel/Casino, and they have been testing them for the regulators to see if they would pass the stringent codes of the Commission.

The company was showing them that slot machines could be run remotely from a computer system – and this would allow them to change the theme and look of the slot machines whenever it was needed. Right now, if a new game comes out then either the whole slot machine has to be removed, or at least the front panel.

The new computer would be able to reprogram the new game into the existing slot machine body. This would save time and money as the slot machines are really only changing code, not an entire framework. They had already gotten the permission for the computer system that could change certain aspects of the slot machines – like denomination or payback percentage – without swapping the games out.

Currently, they have to swap out the entire innards of the slot machine, so the new system will help save them a lot of time. IGT said that originally there were “bugs” in the system that would make them tilt, but they have worked out all of the problems and now the slot machines work as they should. They think they will be able to start selling the new machines within the next two years.
