Baccarat is Vegas Savior

With Las Vegas getting the NBA All-Star Game, many in Vegas thought that their gambling revenues would go through the roof. They thought that they stood a good chance of breaking some records in their slot machine and table gambling. However, this turned out to not be the case.

It seems that all basketball games bring in is basketball fans. Their take for February was $1.055 billion, which is only a 2.9% increase from same time last year. The increase did not come from slot machines though, they came from baccarat players. It turns out that the increase was due solely to the large wagering that took place with their baccarat players.

The large number of baccarat players is because the tournament fell during the 10-day Chinese New Year Celebration. Last year they saw the numbers jump 12.8% statewide from the year before, this year the amount of increase was actually down from the year before, even though there was an increase in revenue.

The Gaming Control Board says that without the baccarat players, the state would have actually been down in revenue instead of up. With slot machines being their usual money maker it was surprising how many people chose not to play them this month. The more people that attended the basketball games, the less people there were on the gambling floor, which leads to less money overall.
